Obviously, I’m late again this week. I’m also doing my best to keep up my commitments all the way around, but do know this is important to me, so I still want to show up in your inbox, even if I’m a day late. I am stretched pretty thin right now, emotionally and mentally. It’s all good stuff AND it’s a lot to keep up with, so I’m having to Tetris my life a bit.
This week I’m in trauma training. It started yesterday and by the time the day was over, I was fried. On top of that, the angel-baby-doggy woke me up in the middle of the night, so I was wiped by 4PM yesterday. Class is from 7AM to 4PM, and in spite of the breaks, talking about trauma is exhausting. Add the layer of Zoom and being on camera for 8 hours a day, and the mental load is real.
The workshop is all about techniques and ways of overcoming your own trauma, processing traumatic events, and so forth. So far, we have talked about everything from the impact of stress on our physical body, the mental tricks it can play on you, and how it colors your memory, perception, etc. It’s also accompanied by meditations, exercises, and group circles. Frankly, it’s a fantastic training and if you’re looking for a very high quality and well supported program, I cannot recommend the Center for Mind Body Medicine, enough. For those that have done work around their own trauma, much of this may not be surprising. I’m only through day two, and I have three more full days to go, so it’s action packed.
I’m still processing a lot, but I wanted to share some gems that came out of the sessions so far, because they were quite helpful for me.
